Today is the first day of my Spiritual Marathon training! For the next 16 weeks I'm going to spend the same amount of time with the Lord that someone training for a physical marathon would spend running. If you have not experienced the physical demands of training for an endurance run, it's really not as hard as it sounds. Yes, you still must do the time -- but your endurance is built over that time. What once was absolutely beyond you -- becomes doable.
I'm hoping some of you will join me. What impact would spending more concentrated time with the Lord for the next 16 weeks have on your life? For my own life, the timing is perfect. I need answers to a few serious delimmas. In addition, I have recently been given a weighty responsibility at church that requires clear direction from the Lord. We are in the middle of an adoption; and I am waiting to hear back from a publisher about a Bible study I've submitted. That's just the beginning. Courage is needed. Fear and discouragement are threatening to take me over. I feel isolated and overwhelmed at times. What I need is some concentrated, penetrating time with the One who holds me and all these responsibilities in His hands. Your life is likely similar to mine. You, too, need time with Jesus.
Below you will find my Spiritual Marathon training schedule for May. Notice the weekdays contain 3 short period with 1 longer period set aside for the weekend. This is the pattern for physical marathon training. Feel free to manipulate these for your own needs and purposes. Shorten the time, if needed. I believe any sincere effort we make to spend time with the Lord, regardless of the length, is honored. If we only give an extra 15 minutes, we will be more spiritually fit!
